November 29, 2022 - Rock Wren and Yetman Trail

John and I were curious to know what trailhead would be best for this hike.

We drove to Lorraine Lee Trailhead at the Marriott and found that they have restricted parking near the trailhead. This has changed since June 2022. The only parking available is on the side of the road quite a distance from the trailhead and may have a chance of getting towed.

Directions - I-10 to exit 259 right onto West Starr Pass Blvd. which leads to the Marriott Hotel.

This trailhead provides access to Hidden Canyon, Bowen and Yetman trail.

The second trailhead is the Camino de Oeste. It is a small parking lot and was nearly full when we arrived. Unless we have a very small group, this may not be ideal.

Directions: I-10 to exit 252 onto W. El Camino Del Cerro road and Left onto N Silverbell Road, then Right onto W. Sweetwater Drive, at the bend go onto N. Camino De Oeste to the trailhead.

Description of Yetman Trail from Camino Trailhead

This trailhead gives us access to Bowen trail and Hidden Canyon as well as the Bowen Stone House via Yetman trail.

The third Trailhead was Richard E. Genser Starr Pass Trailhead. This lot had ample parking. It also has access to two porta-potties, but they were not maintained well when we were there.

Directions: Palm Creek to Florence Blv. to I-10 E for Tucson. Continue on I-10 E for 64 miles to exit 259, Starr Pass Blvd. Use the right lane to merge onto Freeway and W. Starr Pass Blvd. Continue 4.2 miles to the end of the road to the Marriott Hotel at Starr Pass. Address 3800 W. Starr Pass.

We decided on the Richard E. Genser Starr Pass Trailhead because of the parking availability. We start the hike on Rock Wren Trail which meets up with Yetman. Yetman takes us to the Bowen House. It is an out an back hike - 6 miles.

Hiking project with gems.  This website is interactive with trails in this area. It shows where the highlights and crested saguaros.
